Dry mouth
A dry mouth is more than uncomfortable. Saliva protects teeth and gums, so a shortage increases the risk of cavities, inflammation and bad breath. We look for the cause together and build a care plan that fits.
Not sure if your issue belongs here? Call or message us, we're happy to think along with you.
No waiting list. New patients usually within 1 to 2 weeks.
Possible causes
A dry mouth can have several causes:
- Side effect of medication
- Mouth breathing, especially at night
- Stress and tension
- Auto-immune conditions (such as Sjögren)
- Radiation therapy in the head and neck area
What we do
We check your teeth extra carefully, advise on brushing, fluoride and products that stimulate or replace saliva. When needed we coordinate with your GP.
What you can do yourself
These tips help ease the symptoms:
- Sip small amounts of water regularly
- Avoid excess alcohol and caffeine
- Chew sugar-free gum
- Use a fluoride toothpaste without SLS
You might recognise this too
Grinding and clenching
Unconsciously pressing or sliding the jaw, often at night. Wears the teeth and causes pain.
Tooth wear
Enamel wears down through acidic drinks, grinding or age. Early intervention preserves your own tooth.
Sensitive teeth
A sharp reaction to cold, warm or sweet. Often easy to solve once we find the cause.
