Suffering from toothache? It is unpleasant and can make sleep and concentration difficult. Below you'll read how to recognise toothache, what causes it and what you and we can do.

Acute toothache

Is the pain so intense you want urgent help? Call us right away. Reports before noon can usually be treated the same day.

Recognising toothache

Toothache comes in different forms. Common signals are:

  • Swollen cheek or gum
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Throbbing pain (often with inflammation)
  • Pain when chewing
  • Nagging or persistent pain

What you can do yourself

Waiting for the appointment? These tips help:

  • Rinse with lukewarm salt water
  • Take paracetamol as instructed on the packaging
  • Avoid very hot or cold drinks
  • Keep the area clean by brushing carefully

How fast can I be seen?

For acute pain we always try to see you the same day, especially with a report before noon.

May I use ibuprofen?

Ibuprofen works well against inflammatory pain if you have no contraindications. Follow the packaging or ask your GP.
